Frequently Asked Questions

What is sound design?

Sound design, at its core, is the creation of sounds for a specific purpose.

There five pillars that make up that process:

Synthesis - creating sounds using various methods

Sampling - using existing sounds

Processing - applying effects (such as reverb or delay)

Layering - combining sounds for depth

Mixing - balancing sounds together

However, to sound designer it is so much more. Using a combination of all 5 pillars, we create the sonic environment and atmosphere for the world in which it lives.

Why do I need a sound designer for my project?

While there are many reasons you should hire a sound designer on your project, here are a few key ones:

Quality: Whether you have a trained ear or not, low quality sounds are distinguishable and can instantly snap your audience out of their focus. A good sound designer will provide high quality sounds for your project that immerse your audience and keep their attention.

Unique: After spending all the time, energy, and resources to make a unique product, why stop when it comes to the sound? The same thing over and over again gets boring. An experienced sound designer can create new unique sounds specifically for your project that have never been heard before.

Tailored: No matter how hard you try to shove a puzzle piece into a specific spot, it will not fit if it doesn't belong there. A good sound designer can create a soundscape that is specifically tailored to your project; adding and enhancing the emotion, environment, and atmosphere.

Legality: Using "free" or "shared" sound libraries found on the internet can be risky. Not only are you risking having low quality content; but some may even include sounds from professional sound libraries that you do not have a license for. Hiring a sound designer will allow you to monetize your product worry free of any copyright infringement; including using any sound from professional libraries they have access to.
